Rediscovering Wonder: The Story Behind “Once Upon a Time”

As a songwriter, my heart often gravitates toward emotions that define who we are and where we’ve been. My song Once Upon a Time is one such piece—a reflection of the innocence and magic we often leave behind as we grow older. It’s not just about nostalgia; it’s about reconnecting with a perspective that brought endless joy, curiosity, and belief in the impossible.

When I wrote Once Upon a Time, I found myself longing for the days when everything felt enchanted. As children, we don’t just see the world—we experience it in vivid color. The smallest things—fireflies at dusk, bedtime stories, the laughter of a friend—carry immense meaning. We believe in heroes, magic kingdoms, and happy endings, and we trust the world to be full of goodness.

But life happens. As adults, we trade those once-bright dreams for pragmatism. While there’s a beauty in growing up, it’s easy to lose sight of the wonder we once held so close. Once Upon a Time became my way of honoring that childlike spirit and reminding myself that some of the magic never really leaves us.

The song is a journey through the treasures of youth—like believing in fairytales, the thrill of discovery, and trusting that everything will work out. Its melody mirrors that wistful longing, weaving together both sweetness and melancholy. Writing it felt like opening a time capsule, rediscovering moments I had tucked away but never forgotten.

For me, this song is an invitation to listeners to pause and reflect on what once made their hearts race with excitement. What did you believe in as a child? What brought you awe and wonder? And what would it look like to carry just a piece of that back into your life today?

As adults, we may not have castles or magic wands, but we still hold the power to dream, to find beauty in simple things, and to believe in ourselves. Once Upon a Time isn’t just a song; it’s a reminder that even as we move forward, those innocent, wide-eyed moments are still a part of who we are.

So, take a moment to think about your “once upon a time.” What memories make you smile? What dreams shaped the person you’ve become? And if you could, what magic would you reclaim today?
